Day 14: I’m back on track.

Day 13

By the time my husband got home from work yesterday, I had barely hit 5,000 steps. My attempt at motivating myself by writing yesterday’s post failed. I felt groggy and not in the best of moods, but I really wanted to put a stop to my failing streak and hit my step goal.

I figured a run would be the easiest and quickest way to knock out a few thousand steps. I wasn’t necessarily in the mood for running, I’m not one of those people who likes to work out in the evenings; but I figured I could manage a short, slow run. So when my husband walked through the door, I told him I needed to go for a run to clear my head, and I took the baby with me. I figured the little kid could use some fresh air.

We ran a very slow 2.5 miles. When we were done, I checked my Garmin and I was a few steps short of 10,000. It was almost 6:00pm, and I knew if I went home then, I would likely not be able to hit my goal again. Little kid had fallen asleep, and he needed to rest to get better, so I decided to just keep walking for a bit. By the time we got back home, I was a little over 12,000 steps. Win! I also had a text from my husband: he was proud of the fact that I had chosen to go for a run to clear my head.

That may sound silly or weird to some, but normally, when I’m in my not-so-great moods, I tend to wallow in them. I just want to veg in front of the TV, binge on comfort food, and maybe have a cocktail or two. My husband, on the other hand, is exactly the type of person who would choose to go for a run to help get rid of a bad mood. For the first time ever, I chose the healthier route for trying to manage my bad feelings.

Granted, my motivation came from wanting to get my steps in, not necessarily to make myself feel better, but I still got out there and ran right? That’s what counts. It seems this challenge is definitely working.

Day 14

I’ve already hit my step goal for the day and it’s not even 6:00 pm yet. I’m back on a roll and ready to keep this streak going!
