Yesterday was another excess calorie day. Overall, it’s been an excess calorie week – my daily average calorie total was 2,573. That’s almost 800 calories over my daily calorie goal. I’m pretty sure I gained 1-2 lbs this week.
That being “said,” I walked a lot yesterday, and despite failing to hit my step goal on Friday night, I still averaged over 15,000 steps a day for the week.

After a long weekend of eating almost double my calorie goal each day, I’m feeling pretty gross, bloated, and sluggish. I’ve decided to follow through with the DietBet I wrote about in this post, for a little extra motivation to get back on track.
The DietBet initial weigh-in began last night, so I’ll be submitting my weight first thing tomorrow. I would have preferred to submit it this morning, but we were still at the hotel and for the sake of consistency, it’s better for me to weigh myself at home as usual. If I’m going to do this, I want to do it right.
Once my weigh-in is approved by the DietBet referees, I’m assuming they’ll calculate my first weight loss target. My weight this morning was 130.6 lbs, so I’m guessing my goal will be around 4 lbs by the first deadline of October 4th. That’s about 1 lb per week.
It’s a reasonable goal, but I’m not sure it’s attainable based on the goals I set in my Experiments 1 and 2. I am convinced my total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) is higher than what the wellness center (and myself) calculated, but I don’t believe it’s high enough for a weekly 1 lb weight loss at my “maintenance” calories of 1,822. I’ll have to cut a little more if I want a shot at winning this bet.
My new calorie goal: 1,522 calories a day.
If my belief is wrong and my estimated TDEE is correct, a calorie deficit of 300 calories a day will result in a weekly weight loss goal of about 1/2 a lb; but I feel pretty confident that I’m right and I’ll lose 1 lb a week instead.
The challenge will be in consistently sticking to this new, lower calorie goal. As I wrote in my post yesterday, cutting calories is where I struggle the most. I’ve obviously struggled to stay under 2,000 calories this week, but I also haven’t really put in a real effort. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this new week goes.
