Day 21: Climbing back on the wagon

I’ve already managed to blow off my gym plan, but I’ve got a 5-day step goal streak going, so I’m gonna take that as a win. Unfortunately, I don’t feel as excited and pumped about this challenge as I did before. I’ve been feeling out of sorts lately. I’m stuck in some sort of funk or rut, or whichever is the best way to describe it.

The thing is, I’ve gained back some of the weight I’d lost these past few months. Realistically, it’s probably only about 5 lbs, but when you’re as short as I am, that translates to anywhere from one to two clothing sizes. In terms of measurements, my waist size seems to have increased by a whole two inches. My super comfy jeans are now super tight jeans, and the muffin top I’d finally managed to get rid of, is back with a vengeance. I feel gross.

But, instead of feeling motivated by this to climb back on the wagon, I feel stuck. I’m in that spot; you know, the one where you know you need to make a change – and you want to make a change – but you just can’t get yourself to actually do it. So, instead of making positive changes, you just make worse choices.

I have a Bod Pod appointment tomorrow, so I’m hoping my latest results will give me the kick in the ass I need to shake this funk. I don’t feel all that confident about it though. I know I need to change my mindset, but that’s just not where I’m at right this moment. Hopefully, I’ll feel differently tomorrow.

Days 83: Where am I and where did my motivation go?

I went to bed last night without hitting my step goal. I knew I was short steps, but I just didn’t seem to care enough to get up and walk laps. I am still struggling with getting back into the swing of things after vacation. It’s frustrating because I’d hoped that the progress I’ve made since I began this challenge would make it easier for me to bounce back from vacation mode. But it hasn’t, at least not yet. I’m still that person who struggles for weeks to get back into the whole “working out and eating better” thing after indulging and being lazy for a week on vacation.

And struggle this week I have. Yesterday was the first day I stayed within my calorie range since last Wednesday. I haven’t even tried to make it to the gym this week. I basically resigned myself to not working out until after my Bod Pod for no good reason.

Even worse, I feel like I subconsciously blew off my step goal. As I updated my goal tracking sheet this morning, I realized that I missed my step goal on Monday by less than 1,000 steps. I hadn’t even noticed.

I need to snap out of this funk and get motivated again. I’ve made too much progress to start slipping back into old habits and start regaining the weight. I just don’t know how to. All of my old “tricks,” like finding a new workout plan, just aren’t working this time around.

Any tips, tricks, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Day 58: Meal prep my way did not happen today

I searched for recipes  immediately after publishing yesterday’s post and decided on a few. I made my grocery list and went to bed feeling motivated. I assumed today would be a productive meal prepping day…

But it wasn’t. The day started out all right; I got up, took big kid to her soccer game, then came home and went grocery shopping. I didn’t get all the things I needed to do the prep I had planned, but I did get the ingredients for pumpkin chocolate chip protein muffins and oatmeal chocolate chip protein cookies.

I was pumped to make my muffins and cookies. They were an impulse decision, but a good one. I’ve been struggling with this protein thing because I’d rather eat cookies right? So why not make some that have protein in them?

Unfortunately, life with kids happened, and it all went to shit. The worst part is, I skipped my workout today and now I regret it. I feel like if I’d gone to the gym, I would have been able to shake off this mood. At this point, it’s too late in the day to go without it affecting my sleep.

I’m trying to reframe my skipped workout as a blessing in disguise. I’ve been sore since I started working out consistently, so an extra day of rest might not be such a bad thing, right? Maybe if I tell myself that enough times I’ll start to believe it.

I’m sure after a good night’s rest, I’ll feel better in the morning. I just need to keep moving forward.
